Veritas Christi Hybrid Academy
The Action Program of the People of Praise sends teams of high school students and adults to serve for a week or two every summer in Evansville, IN, Indianapolis, IN, Shreveport, LA, and St. Paul, MN. Action members do landscaping, repair homes, and run summer camps for neighborhood children. During the rest of the year they work to develop the practical skills they need to be effective on these summer trips and to raise funds to cover their travel expenses.
Action has three main goals:
Action started in 2002 after a consultation with the high school students in the People of Praise revealed their strong desire for purposeful work. They wanted to join the adults in doing real, purposeful work for the Kingdom of God.
Action is a multi-generational activity where adults and high school students work together. We take our desires to deepen a personal relationship with the Lord, share our faith, and build relationships with our peers, and apply them bonding together to do purposeful work in Christ-centered service of others. These activities are consistent with the approach of being available to do whatever the Father calls us to as we join Him in building His kingdom.
Action’s focus on working together brings many benefits that aren’t listed in our goals. Working together is a great way to build friendship between both boys and girls and between young and old. Living and working together on our trips also provides the occasion to teach various elements of the Christian life. We provide teaching on topics like right speech, personal prayer, and friendship.
Action in Rockford serves as an extracurricular activity of Veritas Christi Hybrid Academy but is part of a nationwide Action Program of the People of Praise. Local activities are open to students age 15 and up; Action trips are generally open to rising 10th graders and up.
