There are several factors that distinguish Veritas Christi Hybrid Academy from other educational opportunities in the Rockford area.
Classical education: Our classical approach to learning focuses on using original texts and integrating learning across multiple subjects. Literature, history, written expression, and oral argument are combined in a single class called Humane Letters. Math and science classes build on one another. Science classes have hands-on labs. Projects class fosters hands-on problem solving in teams. PE classes build skills, confidence, and teamwork. Seminars tie all subjects together and unify our community of learners.
Critical thinking: Students are challenged to discover the goodness, truth, beauty, and order in God’s creation, to understand the world views around them, to develop and to articulate their own beliefs in ways that charitably take their audience into account. Veritas Christi Hybrid graduates are quickly recognized and distinguished as clear and articulate thinkers who are better able to lead and influence their peers for good.
Structured curriculum: Our classrooms embody a serious but congenial school atmosphere, with focused, inspired learning and accountability. Learning is applied in a variety of ways, including clear verbal and written articulation, artistic expression, and public performance. We have a range of activities that involve drama, athletics, debate, music, and other sources of fun.
Hybrid learning: Veritas Christi Hybrid’s curriculum and teacher-led instruction provide the structure for classes. Students and teachers work together in the classroom for two days a week. Students are given specific assignments to follow at home. Parents have the opportunity to actively teach and guide their children the other three days. Students learn the responsibility and independent study skills that prepare them well for university. While teachers and the school curricula seek to raise and frame important issues, students are encouraged to work through topics under their parents' guidance.
Christian character: At Veritas Christi Hybrid, we are all children of the same Father, working together to build His kingdom, in a positive, Christian environment. We recognize and are charitably respectful of differences in our respective beliefs. Catholics get a strong Catholic education, and members of other churches and denominations feel a charitable welcome and there is a Protestant history class. Each day starts with assembly, where we pledge allegiance to the flag and have student- and faculty-led prayer. Each class begins with a brief prayer. Students have noted that they find a stronger and more comfortable Christian environment here than other schools they’ve attended.
Community of learners: Faculty and parents work, learn and pray together, building relationships that are based on trust and open communication. We strive for unity rather than uniformity, and relational effort that involves helps us work together more effectively. Faculty and parents gather monthly to learn, grow and fellowship together.
